PU completes Bailey bridge to accelerate people's school construction in Brebes

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has completed the installation of a 90-metre Bailey bridge in Walahar Village, Larangan Subdistrict, Brebes Regency, Central Java, to support the construction of Phase II people’s schools in the area.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stressed that road and bridge connectivity is basic infrastructure with a vital role in supporting community activities and facilitating the development of basic services, including education.

According to him, the Ministry of PU continues to push for the acceleration of people’s school construction, including inter-organisational collaboration, among others, to overcome access limitations in mobilising construction materials.

“We will exert every effort to ensure that this people’s school construction can be completed on time, with the right quality, and at the right cost,” said Dody, in his statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

The completion of the Bailey bridge makes the mobilisation of construction materials and heavy equipment to the people’s school construction site smoother, thereby expected to support the acceleration of on-site work.

The construction of the Bailey bridge, which follows the instructions of the Public Works Minister, was carried out through collaboration between the Central Java-DIY Main Implementation Agency for National Roads (BBPJN) and the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure of the Ministry of PU.

Technically, the installed Bailey bridge has a length of 90 metres, a width of 4 metres, and a load capacity of up to 25 tonnes. This infrastructure is temporary but designed to support vehicle and material mobility during the construction process.

The bridge will support the mobilisation of construction materials and heavy equipment to the people’s school construction site, including the movement of more than 2,000 tonnes of steel frame structures as well as mixer truck traffic for concrete pouring work during the construction process.

Phase II people’s schools in Brebes Regency are part of the government’s priority programme to expand educational access for children from low-income families.

Its construction continues to be accelerated to support operational readiness for the new school year in 2026.

The Ministry of PU reaffirms its commitment to continue supporting priority infrastructure development through synergy among work units and all stakeholders so that the benefits of development can be quickly felt by the community.
