The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PU) is accelerating the construction of Phase II People’s Schools in various regions of Indonesia, with a target completion date of 20 June 2026. “The Ministry of PU wants to ensure that these educational facilities are built quickly and with quality,” said Minister of PU Dody Hanggodo in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. To ensure the completion target is met on schedule, the Ministry of PU has established an Acceleration Task Force involving the Directorate General of Cipta Karya, the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure, and all relevant parties in the implementation of the construction. The Ministry of PU has also requested that all construction service providers and implementing state-owned enterprises ensure that acceleration steps run optimally at every construction site. The implementation contracts have also been adjusted to the target completion date of 20 June 2026. In line with the acceleration of work in the field, the progress of Phase II People’s Schools construction continues to show improvement. As of 7 May 2026, the average physical progress has reached 45.91 percent, up from 40.27 percent on 1 May 2026. Several locations also show significant progress, including Medan City at 64.48 percent, Sragen Regency at 63.22 percent, Bengkulu City at 62.17 percent, Ogan Ilir Regency at 62.07 percent, and Makassar City at 62.04 percent. Various acceleration strategies are being implemented in the field, including parallel work on all buildings, adding manpower as needed, overtime work, accelerating material mobilisation, and adding construction equipment such as cranes, piling equipment, excavators, and mobile batching plants. In addition, construction method adjustments are being made to speed up the process, including the use of steel structures in some building parts, metal deck and wire mesh, and the application of hollow core slab technology on floor slabs. Phase II People’s Schools are being built permanently on land of 5-10 hectares prepared by local governments. Each area is designed as an integrated education centre at the primary, junior high, and senior high school levels, equipped with technology-based classrooms, skills laboratories, libraries, digital learning centres, student and teacher dormitories, and various supporting facilities such as healthy canteens, clinics, sports fields, extracurricular rooms, and green open spaces. The Ministry of PU is also continuing to push for the resolution of various technical obstacles in the field, from construction access, material mobilisation, to the readiness of supporting infrastructure, to ensure all projects run according to target and can soon be utilised by the community.
