PTPN names 3 firms to import sugar
JAKARTA: State plantation company PT Perkebunan Nusantara
(PTPN) XI has named three companies as winners of the bidding to
import 53,500 tons of sugar from China and Thailand.
PTPN IX corporate secretary Adig Suwandi said on Wednesday
that the three firms -- Wee Thiong, Nobel Resources and Kwee Gie
-- won the bid to import sugar, due to arrive at Tanjung Perak
Port, Surabaya, on Dec. 15.
Kwee Gie also won the bid to import sugar for areas such as
Medan, Aceh, Pontianak and Makassar, which is scheduled to arrive
on Jan. 20.
Adig said the imported sugar price would range between US$365
and $367.50 per ton and would be difficult to sell at the retail
price of Rp 5,500 per kilogram.
The global price of sugar is expected to remain high until
October 2006. On Tuesday on the London market, the price of sugar
for December delivery reached $386.80 per ton. While for October
2006, the price is estimated to stand at $318.80 per ton. --
