PTMSI aims for two gold at SEAG

SEMARANG (JP): The Indonesian Table Tennis Association (PTMSI) has set a target of two gold medals for the 2001 Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games despite players in neighboring countries Singapore, whose strength is drawn from China, Vietnam and Thailand posing large threats.

"In anticipation of the threat, we'll stage initial selection trials from Jan. 26 to Jan. 28 to recruit eight male and eight female players. This figure will be increased with players selected from the Stars Meet in Bali from Feb. 8 to Feb. 12," said PTMSI official in charge of athletes development Faisal Rahman on Tuesday.

Currently, PTMSI is coordinating decentralized training. Players will commence their centralized training program on Jan. 11 at the Suryanaga club in Kediri, East Java, for the women's side, and in Jakarta for the men's side. (har)
