JAKARTA — The selection process for entering State Islamic Religious Universities (PTKIN) will be overhauled in 2026 with a new approach based on national data integration. The SPAN-PTKIN Committee has introduced a more transparent selection system, which is claimed to broaden access to education.

Chairman of the SPAN-PTKIN 2026 Committee, Abdul Aziz, stated that the updates focus on strengthening methodologies and cross-sector collaboration. “This year, we are reinforcing the fundamentals, starting from updating report verification methods to integrating national-scale data. We want to ensure that every student has a fair opportunity through a transparent system,” said Abdul Aziz on Sunday (5/4/2026).

He explained that the integration is being carried out with the Education Assessment Centre of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, as well as national systems such as SNPMB and the Academic Competency Test. This step is aimed at aligning student selection data nationally.

The SPAN-PTKIN 2026 also introduces mapping of prospective students’ mental health. This approach is used to assess students’ psychological readiness before entering higher education.

Strengthening is also being carried out at the school level by involving guidance counselling teachers and regional offices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. This effort is to ensure that the socialisation and registration assistance processes run more evenly.

In addition, the committee has launched a real-time monitoring dashboard to track the number of registrants and the distribution of interest in each campus. The assessment system has been updated through a more precise scoring formula and school index.

Director of Islamic Higher Religious Education, Sahiron, stated that this innovation is an effort to maintain the quality of PTKIN graduates. “The involvement of various parties, including regional offices, the Directorate of Student Affairs, the Directorate of Pesantren, and the Directorate of PTKI, shows that this selection is a collaborative effort to identify the best talents,” said Sahiron.

He added that the approach based on equitable educational units is expected to reduce access disparities between regions. This selection is targeted to become a new model that is more inclusive and adaptive to developments in educational technology.
