PTK Affirms Commitment to Coastal Sustainability Through Maritime Education

Maritime education for children is a long-term investment.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK) has reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to safeguarding the sustainability of Indonesia’s coastal regions.

Acting President Director of PTK, Eko Cahyadi, in a statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday, said the company had undertaken a number of programmes to ensure that sustainability is not merely a concept on paper, but concrete action in the field.

“Collaboration with communities and schools is the key to preserving Indonesia’s coastal wealth for future generations,” Eko said.

According to him, one of PTK’s programmes is the ‘Coastal Education 2026’ initiative, an educational vehicle for primary school pupils on the importance of marine conservation.

Through this initiative, hundreds of primary school students gathered with volunteers from PTK officers and the Pertamina Group to learn about the importance of keeping the coastal environment clean at Tangkoko Beach, Bitung, North Sulawesi, on Saturday (18 July 2026).

Noelia, a pupil of SD Inpres 482 Batu Putih in Bitung, expressed her delight at being invited to learn whilst caring for the environment and its coastline.

“I was taught how to respect living creatures, keep the environment clean, and care for the marine ecosystem. It was great fun. I hope PTK can come back here to hold events like this again,” she said.

The play-and-learn activity was also held to enliven National Children’s Day on 23 July 2026.

Meanwhile, Juno, one of PTK’s officers, expressed his happiness at interacting with the pupils.

“I could see how enthusiastic the children were in taking part in every activity,” he said.

PTK also organised a ‘Coastal Clean Up’, or beach clean-up operation, together with the Bitung City Environment Agency (DLH), the Education and Culture Office, the Bitung Harbourmaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), local neighbourhood heads, and community driving elements such as the Family Welfare Movement (PKK).

PTK Fleet Director Dewi Susanti also emphasised the importance of building awareness of environmental and coastal protection from an early age.

“Maritime education for children is a long-term investment. When they understand how precious our seas are, they will grow to become the front line of coastal ecosystem guardians,” she asserted.
