PTDI to Relocate to Kertajati Airport, AHY Supports N219 Aircraft Production
JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) is preparing West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati as a new engine of economic growth for West Java. The area’s development is being carried out through the construction of an integrated aerospace industrial ecosystem linked to the Rebana region.
Agus said the transformation of Kertajati is no longer focused solely on its function as an airport, but also as an aerospace industrial hub capable of attracting investment, creating jobs and promoting equitable development across West Java. The step was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) and PT Bandar Udara Internasional Jawa Barat (BIJB) Perseroda concerning the phased relocation of PTDI’s activities to Kertajati.
“If we can deliver an Aerospace Industrial Park, then Rebana, particularly Kertajati, can become one of the engines of growth, opening up employment and improving public welfare,” said AHY after the signing of the MoU between PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) and PT BIJB Perseroda in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/7/2026).
According to AHY, the government is applying a twin-track strategy in developing PTDI. Bandung will remain the centre of innovation, research, design and human resource development. Meanwhile, Kertajati is being developed as the operational centre of the industry, covering final aircraft assembly, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), manufacturing and flight testing.
He explained that Kertajati enjoys an advantage in terms of connectivity, as it is linked to the Cisumdawu and Cipali toll roads and lies close to Patimban Port. This position is considered strategic for supporting industrial supply chains while extending connectivity to industrial areas in both West Java and Central Java.
AHY said the development of Kertajati will also strengthen the Rebana area, spanning roughly 43,000 hectares, as the motor of economic growth for eastern and northern West Java. The area still offers considerable room for investment and can be developed into a new industrial centre.
Beyond strengthening the national aerospace industry, AHY said the development of Kertajati is projected to have a multiplier effect on the regional economy. The arrival of new industry is expected to drive growth in vocational education, manufacturing supply chains, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), logistics, transport, hospitality, culinary businesses and the creative economy in Majalengka and surrounding areas.
PTDI’s relocation to Kertajati will be carried out in stages. The initial phase begins with the construction of an Aerospace Support Zone, followed by the relocation of part of the production facilities, and finally the development of an Aerospace Industrial Park integrated with Kertajati Airport, Patimban Port and the Rebana area as a new centre of economic growth in West Java.
