PTBA Still Holds 5.7 Billion Ton Coal Resources
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has disclosed that the company manages coal resources reaching 5.71 billion tonnes, with proven reserves amounting to 2.88 billion tonnes. This figure represents approximately 5.81% of the total national coal resources.
The President Director of PTBA, Bambang Ismawan, stated that the coal resources currently managed by the company are dominated by low-to-medium calorie quality.
“PT Bukit Asam’s resources stand at 5.7 billion tonnes, with proven reserves reaching 2.88 billion tonnes,” said Bambang during the PTBA Media Synergy Forum in Jakarta, as reported on Monday (5/10/2026).
According to the presentation, PTBA’s share of reserves accounts for 9.03% of the total national coal reserves, which reach 31.89 billion tonnes. Meanwhile, the total national coal resources are recorded at 98.41 billion tonnes.
Although PTBA’s management portion is relatively small compared to private companies, Bambang emphasised the importance of continuous improvement in mining governance.
“To ensure better management in the future, we must improve; we cannot allow past shortcomings to persist,” said Bambang.
To optimise the value of these coal resources, PTBA is accelerating operational efficiency by testing the use of electric vehicles (EV) within mining areas and promoting coal downstreaming programmes.
Consequently, the company is committed to managing these natural resources responsibly to provide the greatest possible benefit to the community.
“Once again, Bukit Asam belongs to all of us, it belongs to the state, and we must return it to the greatest extent for the welfare of the people,” he concluded.
