Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is optimising operations in the second half of this year to meet its coal production target of 50 million tonnes by the end of 2026. The company expects the target to be achieved as mining activity picks up after the rainy season at the start of the year.

PTBA President Director Bambang Ismawan said that the company’s coal production had reached 19.45 million tonnes in the first half of 2026.

“Production through to the end of the year will be roughly 50 million tonnes. Usually, in the middle of the year, January, February and March see less rain, but from April to the end of the year we can maximise output, so the 50 million tonne target will certainly be met,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday (8 October 2026).

The operational target is supported by the company’s first-half financial performance. PTBA’s net profit rose by 218% from Rp 0.83 trillion in the first half of 2025 to Rp 2.65 trillion. Over the same period, the company’s revenue reached Rp 22.03 trillion, with total sales volume of 21.10 million tonnes.

“Revenue has increased, and net profit for the first half has risen quite sharply, by around 280%. That is quite high compared with last year, when our net profit was only Rp 0.83 trillion, now Rp 2.65 trillion. This is for the first half, and July and August have also been good. So we are optimistic that by the end of the year we can exceed our work plan, our RKAP, and go beyond that,” he explained.

Of the total coal volume produced and sold, PTBA relies on the Babaranjang railway, with a capacity of 60 wagons, to transport 28 million tonnes to the Tarahan port in Lampung.

“This shows where the coal we sell goes. A large amount, around 28 million tonnes, goes to Lampung, to Tarahan, by train. If you often travel from Palembang to Lampung, you will have seen the train that seems to go on forever. It’s known as the Babaranjang, a long consignment of coal with more than 60 wagons. That is PT Bukit Asam’s coal,” he concluded.
