PTBA optimises post-mining land for solar power business
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is developing the optimisation of reclaimed post-mining land into a renewable energy business through solar power plants (PLTS), as part of efforts to optimise assets and create new sources of growth.
PTBA’s Finance and Risk Management Director, Una Lindasari, said the company is exploring PLTS development together with PT Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) across various assets and locations owned by PTBA, including areas around the company’s operations.
“The PLTS development covers various potential assets and locations owned by the company, including the utilisation of reclaimed post-mining land,” said Una during the Public Expose Live 2026 webinar, followed online in Jakarta on Monday.
Una said that to date, PT Bukit Asam’s total solar power portfolio has reached approximately 1.2 megawatt peak (MWp). The cooperation with Pertamina NRE is one of the company’s steps to expand its renewable energy portfolio whilst optimising its assets.
According to Una, the development of solar power plants is not only aimed at supporting the energy transition, but is also part of PTBA’s strategy to create new sources of growth amid changes in the energy and industrial landscape.
“This cooperation is part of PTBA’s strategy to optimise assets, strengthen the renewable energy portfolio, support the energy transition, and create new sources of growth,” she said.
Going forward, PTBA will continue to identify various potential projects, whether in renewable energy, downstream processing, asset and post-mining land optimisation, or other potential business areas.
The company will assess each project selectively, taking into account economic aspects, technology readiness, market certainty, investment requirements, and potential synergies with PTBA’s existing business.
This selective approach is taken to ensure that new business development continues to add value without sacrificing the company’s financial health. PTBA also continues to position its coal business as the company’s core strength.
