PTBA Opens Option for Share Buyback, Management Still Monitoring Market and Financial Conditions
JAKARTA - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has opened the option to conduct a share buyback. However, this corporate action is not a priority in the near term.
PTBA’s President Director, Arsal Ismail, stated that the company is currently monitoring market conditions and maintaining a balance in financial performance before making strategic decisions such as a share buyback.
“For now, we are looking at the situation and conditions, linked to our financial condition as well. After all, our shares are relatively stable at the moment, so a buyback is not there yet; we haven’t planned it,” Arsal said when met in South Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026).
“Oh, the option remains open. If later, especially in situations like the current one, linked to MSCI which we are observing,” he added.
According to him, fluctuations in the capital market are normal due to external dynamics. However, amid these conditions, the energy sector is in a relatively advantageous position, particularly with the recent upward trend in coal prices.
“But if we look at it generally, there are still ups and downs, as usual, but for the energy sector, we are actually benefiting, as coal prices are relatively rising now,” Arsal explained.
The rise in commodity prices provides additional profits for the company. Nevertheless, the potential increase in operational costs, particularly fuel oil (BBM), is a factor that needs to be considered as it could pressure margins going forward.
This condition is still seen as providing sufficient positive room for the company’s financial performance amid ongoing market dynamics.
“Even though it will be offset by rising BBM costs as well, but up to today, because it’s been a month like this, it can still cover, meaning we get more windfall, although not much, but quite decent with the current prices,” he concluded.
It is known that PTBA shares strengthened in Monday’s trading, rising 3.09% to Rp 3,000 per share at 13:36 WIB.
At the start of trading, PTBA shares were at a lower position around Rp 2,910 before gradually rising.
Although it briefly touched a high of Rp 3,010, the strengthening of PTBA tended to be held back in that area, indicating short-term profit-taking actions. However, the price was still able to hold around Rp 3,000.
