PTBA Announces Plans to Revive Ombilin Coal Mine
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is targeting the reactivation of the Ombilin coal mine in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra, for 2027.
PTBA’s President Director, Arsal Ismail, stated that the company plans to revive operations at the Ombilin mine as part of efforts to enhance business activities and provide economic benefits to the local community.
He explained that the reactivation is expected to reopen job opportunities in the Sawahlunto region. With the Ombilin mine resuming operations, mining activities in the area will also regain momentum.
“Insya Allah, we will also revive our mine in Ombilin. By 2027, Insya Allah, we will start operations again, thus providing job opportunities there. So there will be mining again,” Arsal said during a Working Meeting with Commission VI of the House of Representatives, quoted on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
Additionally, Arsal added that the company is committed to supporting regional development, including the realisation of construction related to cultural aspects in the area.
“This includes the cultural building from Mr Fadli Zon, which Insya Allah we will also realise,” he said.
