PT TPS Records 11.79 Percent Growth in Container Traffic in July

PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) recorded an 11.79 percent growth in container throughput in July 2026 compared with the previous month, rising from 116 thousand twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to 130 thousand TEUs.

“The positive performance in July 2026 was driven entirely by the contribution of international container flows. By comparison, in June 2026 international container flows reached 116 thousand TEUs,” said TPS Corporate Secretary Erika A. Palupi in a statement in Surabaya, East Java, Sunday.

On an annual basis, international container flows in the January–July 2026 period totalled 807 thousand TEUs, a correction of 6.94 percent compared with the same period last year of 867 thousand TEUs.

In total, container flows, both domestic and international, contracted by 8.59 percent compared with the same period last year, from 908 thousand TEUs to 830 thousand TEUs.

The year-on-year correction in throughput was mainly a consequence of the transition and integration of new equipment, namely four Electric Quay Container Cranes (E-QCC) and 14 Electric Rubber Tyred Gantries (E-RTG).

The installation, testing and operational adaptation process requires time for productivity to gradually reach an optimal point.

In terms of foreign trade, export flows in July grew by 20.54 percent month-on-month, from 57 thousand TEUs to 68 thousand TEUs.

Imports also increased by 3.39 percent, from 59 thousand TEUs to 61 thousand TEUs.

The comparison of container flows between exports and imports for January–July 2026 was 49 percent, or 400 thousand TEUs, for export containers and 51 percent, or 407 thousand TEUs, for import containers.

In terms of productivity, TPS recorded an average loading and unloading performance of 51 boxes per ship per hour during the first two months of 2026, exceeding the minimum standard set by the Ministry of 48 boxes per ship per hour.

In addition, TPS was able to maintain its dominant position in the international container market with a market share of 83 percent at Tanjung Perak Port.

“With loading and unloading productivity remaining above the standard set by the regulator and an 83 percent share of the international market at Tanjung Perak Port, we will continue to support the smooth flow of the national logistics chain and the growth of Indonesian trade,” said Erika.
