PT Timah surveys for tin in Vietnam
JAKARTA (AFP): Indonesia's state tin mining company PT Timah
Tbk has sent an exploration team to Vietnam, a company spokesman
said Thursday.
The team will conduct a joint geological survey of mineral
resources in nearshore and offshore areas off Vietnam until the
end of the year.
Areas to be surveyed cover three blocks.
A cooperative agreement was signed by Timah with Vietnam's
Marine Geology and Mineral Resources Center in Hanoi on March 13.
A Timah statement quoted the head of mineral exploration,
Nasir Umar as saying if substantial offshore tin deposits are
found in Vietnam, then Timah would have priority in handling
further exploration in the area.
