PT Timah Provides Assistance to Independence War Veterans
Pangkalpinang (ANTARA) – PT Timah (Persero) Tbk has provided assistance to veterans of Indonesia’s independence struggle in Bangka Belitung Islands Province as part of events ahead of Heroes’ Day on 10 November.
“The assistance is a form of recognition for the veterans’ service and an effort to help meet the needs of these independence fighters in their old age,” said Anggi Siahaan, head of corporate communications at PT Timah Tbk, in Pangkalpinang on Thursday.
PT Timah, together with Pemuda Panca Marga (PPM) and the Indonesian Veterans Legion (LVRI) in Bangka Belitung Islands Province, distributed assistance to 82 veterans of Indonesia’s independence struggle in the province.
The company also provided assistance to 73 veterans in Riau Islands Province, in recognition of their service in fighting for the nation’s independence.
“This assistance reflects the company’s concern for veterans who have served the nation in its struggle,” she said.
Sapta Qodria Muafi, deputy secretary of the Bangka Belitung Islands LVRI regional board, said the collaboration began with PPM’s effort to help LVRI give greater attention to veterans.
“According to the data we have collected, there are 82 veterans in Bangka Belitung. We initially proposed assistance for them, and PT Timah’s president director responded very positively, offering an amount greater than the one proposed by PPM and LVRI,” he said.
He said PT Timah’s support was important because veterans’ circumstances differ. Some continue to face economic hardship, while not all receive a veterans’ allowance because eligibility is subject to specific rules and categories.
“We hope the veterans can use this assistance according to their individual needs, including to support daily living and healthcare costs,” he said.
