PT Timah Tbk (TINS) is continuing communications with major Chinese tin company Yunnan Tin. The move is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen operational resilience and develop strategic mineral reserves on a global scale. Director of Production and Commercial at TINS, Ilham Mahendra, explained that the company is maintaining intensive communication to explore the appropriate form of collaboration between the two parties. He mentioned that representatives from Yunnan Tin recently visited the company’s production facilities in Indonesia to observe the smelter technology currently in operation. “So, regarding the potential with Yunnan Tin, we are still communicating and exploring. About one or two weeks ago, colleagues from Yunnan Tin also visited our site, particularly the smelter area, to see our smelter technology,” Ilham said during the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (RUPST) for the 2025 financial year in Jakarta on Friday (12/6/2026). The planned collaboration will focus on exchanging insights and utilising technology in the operations and production sectors. PT Timah is seeking to identify innovations that can be adopted to improve the quality of national tin production, ensuring it remains competitive in the international market. “I think the main focus will be on how we exchange insights regarding operational and production knowledge. What technologies are mutually used, and what technologies we might be able to swap and utilise together, primarily in operations and production,” he elaborated. Beyond technical factory matters, the two companies have also begun discussing long-term strategies for securing tin resources and reserves. This exploration is considered crucial for strengthening tin’s position as a critical mineral commodity in supporting the development of the global green economy. “We are not looking at this solely from an Indonesian or Chinese perspective, but rather how to strengthen the resilience of the tin commodity in the context of critical and strategic minerals. We are continuing to study this, and plan to visit Yunnan Tin this year to see in more detail what technologies we might be able to adopt,” he concluded.
