PT Telkom told to improve service

JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications
Joop Ave urged state-owned domestic telecommunications firm PT
Telkom yesterday to connect a new fixed-telephone line in the
Greater Jakarta area within just three days.

In this way an applicant will not have to wait years or months
to get a new telephone line, he said.

In the past, many telephone applicants waited years to get
telephone lines connected.

Telkom's Jakarta regional office launched yesterday a better-
service drive called Gelar Aksi (action move) which was attended
by some 8,000 employees of the company.

The campaign is aimed at motivating the company's employees to
extend better services to subscribers.

Joop also said Telkom should try to increase the rate of
successful call ratio from the current 53.81 percent to 80
percent for local calls, and from 46.92 percent to 70 percent for
long distance calls, Joop said yesterday.

He said that every telephone disorder should be also be
handled properly within three days.

Telkom Jakarta covers 11,646 square kilometers comprising
Bekasi, Tangerang, Cibinong, Purwakarta, Bogor and Serang.

By the end of November last year, Telkom Jakarta operated 1.26
million lines. (icn)
