PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero), or SMI, has signed two infrastructure financing agreements with the Gianyar and Klungkung regency governments in Bali, with a total value of Rp175.84 billion. The funds will be used by the two regional governments to build infrastructure and improve public services, ranging from roads and healthcare facilities to school revitalisation, as part of SMI’s efforts to support sustainable regional development. SMI Director of Public Financing and Project Development Faaris Pranawa stated that each region has different development needs, and the regional loan scheme is designed to be flexible enough to address the specific requirements of each area. ‘The infrastructure we finance is not merely physical assets. This financing support is part of PT SMI’s commitment to overseeing regional development in Bali, and we want the impact to be genuinely felt, both for public services and the local economy. Going forward, we hope more regional governments will utilise this scheme to accelerate their priority projects,’ Faaris said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. The Klungkung Regency government secured a regional loan facility worth Rp68.4 billion with a four-year tenor. The funds will be used for road construction, strengthening healthcare facilities, organising residential areas, and supporting tourism facilities as the region’s leading sector. The projects are expected to absorb 367 local workers, with almost all raw materials sourced domestically. Klungkung Regent I Made Satria welcomed the cooperation. ‘The financing support from PT SMI gives us more optimal fiscal space to accelerate priority projects. What is most important for us is that the results can truly be felt by the community, from better public services to a stronger tourism sector,’ said I Made Satria. This is not the first such cooperation. Since 2021, SMI and the Klungkung Regency government have collaborated on financing worth Rp62.18 billion, used for repairing several regency roads and strengthening healthcare facilities. For the Gianyar Regency government, SMI is channelling a regional loan facility worth Rp107.24 billion to revitalise 131 schools spread across seven sub-districts. The programme includes light to heavy rehabilitation of school buildings, plus the provision of facilities such as libraries and computer laboratories in schools that need them. The revitalisation is targeted to reach more than 60,000 students in Gianyar. SMI also estimates the project will stimulate the local economy, both during the construction period and after the schools resume operations. Gianyar Regent I Made Agus Mahayastra said the SMI financing is a strategic step to improve the quality of educational infrastructure in his region. ‘Education is a long-term investment for regional development. With PT SMI’s support, we can accelerate school revitalisation, thereby creating a more conducive learning environment for both students and educators. We hope this can boost the quality of human resources in Gianyar going forward,’ Mahayastra said. This cooperation complements SMI’s previous support to Gianyar, which included financing for a sports hall, a government centre building, and several regency roads. The support for Gianyar and Klungkung adds to SMI’s track record in supporting development across various regions in Bali. Previously, SMI had also disbursed financing to the Karangasem, Tabanan, Bangli, and Badung regency governments, as well as the Bali Provincial Government, with an effective commitment of Rp5.43 trillion. As a special mission vehicle under the Ministry of Finance, SMI continues to carry out its national development mandate through sustainable infrastructure financing. Through the regional loan scheme, SMI supports the implementation of the government’s Astacita goals while helping regional governments expand their fiscal space to deliver better public services. As of May 2026, SMI’s total committed regional financing has reached Rp37.41 trillion, with an outstanding amount of Rp14.03 trillion.
