PT SI opens in Hamburg

JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned surveyor company PT Surveyor Indonesia (SI) has opened a branch office in Hamburg, Germany, in an effort to take over the inspection task from the Geneva-based Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS).

The opening was officiated by SI president Soedarjono on Tuesday in a ceremony attended by Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Hartono Martodiredjo, Indonesian Counselor General in Hamburg Edwar C. Simandjuntak and a director of SGS.

SI, which is 76 percent owned by the government, 20 percent by SGS and four percent by another state surveyor firm PT Superintending Company of Indonesia (Sucofindo), is responsible for inspecting Indonesian imports at points of loading.

With the kickoff of the Hamburg office, SI now has 16 branch offices operating throughout the world.

"Our new office in Hamburg is the fifth in Europe, after the ones in The Hague, Brussels, London and Paris," Soedarjono said adding that another office will be opened in Milan of Italy this week. (fhp)
