PT Piaggio Indonesia Releases 180cc Primavera and Sprint with Increased Power at Steady Prices
JAKARTA — PT Piaggio Indonesia has introduced a new chapter for its iconic scooters in Indonesia with the launch of the latest-generation Vespa Primavera and Vespa Sprint in Jakarta on Monday, 17 March 2026. Beyond a cosmetic refresh, these new models bring significant changes through the adoption of a new 180cc engine with enhanced power output.
PT Piaggio Indonesia has released five models simultaneously: Primavera, Primavera S, Sprint, Sprint S, and Sprint Tech. All now retire the previously used 150cc engine in favour of a new generation larger-capacity engine.
Managing Director and Country Chief Executive Officer Marco Noto La Diega of PT Piaggio Indonesia stated that the engine capacity increase represents an important evolution for the Italian classic scooter line.
“The 150cc engine will be discontinued. This is an evolution of the Vespa Sprint and Vespa Primavera. Both standard and S and Tech versions will now be equipped with the 180cc engine,” said Marco.
The new-generation engine delivers substantial performance improvements. Approximately 14 per cent of major engine components have been redesigned, including the engine core and transmission system.
In terms of performance, power output increases by 24 per cent to 11 kW (approximately 14.7 horsepower) at 8,250 rpm. Meanwhile, torque also rises by around 8 per cent, making acceleration more responsive particularly for urban road use.
Republika briefly tested the top-tier Sprint Tech variant around the SCBD in mixed flowing and congested traffic conditions. Marco’s claim proves well-founded, as the Vespa scooter easily manoeuvres through stop-and-go congestion and possesses adequate power and sustained pulling force on straight stretches.
