Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is operating the MT Pertamina Halmahera fleet to maintain the distribution of national fuel oil (BBM) to various energy terminals across Sumatra, Java, and Eastern Indonesia.

“MT Pertamina Halmahera plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth distribution of fuel in Indonesia,” said Arif Yunianto, Director of Logistics Fleet at PT Pertamina Patrim Patra Niaga, in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

MT Pertamina Halmahera is a Suezmax-class tanker with a large capacity, featuring a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of approximately 100,000–160,000 tonnes and a length overall (LOA) of about 240 metres.

The ship is designed to transport various types of fuel in a single voyage through a segregated cargo tank system. It is also equipped with safety technologies, such as an inert gas system and a cargo monitoring system, to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Given its size, the MT Pertamina Halmahera is equivalent to more than two football pitches or approximately 60–70 cars lined up, making it one of the large tankers operating in Indonesian waters.

In a single voyage, the vessel can transport up to approximately 100,000–160,000 kilolitres of fuel, which is then distributed to various energy terminals across Sumatra, Java, and Eastern Indonesia. This capacity makes MT Pertamina Halmahera one of the strategic fleets in maintaining the continuity of the national energy supply.

“With its large carrying capacity, this ship is part of the energy logistics system working to ensure that the needs of the community continue to be met in various regions,” said Arif.

As an archipelagic nation, Indonesia’s energy distribution is highly dependent on maritime transport. In this regard, large-capacity tankers play a crucial role as links between energy terminals and various distribution destinations throughout Indonesia.

The name “Halmahera” is taken from one of the large islands in Eastern Indonesia, representing inter-island connectivity and the strategic role of Indonesia’s maritime territory. This naming reflects the ship’s function as a distributor of energy to various regions of the archipelago.

Arif also added that Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to strengthen the reliability of its maritime fleet as part of the effort to maintain national energy resilience.

“We are committed to ensuring that energy distribution runs safely, on time, and reaches all regions of Indonesia,” he concluded.

Through the operation of MT Pertamina Halmahera, Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to strengthen the reliability of national energy distribution, while simultaneously ensuring that fuel supply connectivity is maintained from the western to the eastern regions of Indonesia.
