PT PAL Opens Opportunities for RI-US Maritime Sector Cooperation
PT PAL Indonesia is opening opportunities for cooperation between Indonesia and the United States (US) in the maritime and defence sectors, following an official visit from the US Consul General in Surabaya, Christopher Green.
“This inaugural visit opens a space for strategic dialogue to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and the United Grand States, particularly in the maritime and defence industries,” said Briljan Gazalba, Director of Technology and Risk Management at PT PAL Indonesia, in Surabaya on Monday.
Briljan stated that as the National Consolidator of the national defence industry, PT PAL is creating space for collaboration with various global strategic partners who share a similar vision of building a resilient, innovative, and sustainable defence supply chain. Furthermore, the ongoing transformation within PT PAL serves as a foundation for building a national maritime and defence industry ecosystem.
Additionally, he noted that PT PAL has been tasked by the government to consolidate the entire domestic maritime industry.
Briljan mentioned that the meeting also discussed strengthening collaboration between the Indonesian and US defence industries, including the role of trusted industrial partnerships in building more resilient and sustainable defence supply chains.
For PT PAL, the visit from the US Consul General presents broader opportunities for collaboration in maritime technology, the strengthening of defence industry supply chains, the development of MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) capabilities, and various other strategic initiatives that support security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
“We believe that partnerships based on trust and capability transfer will provide added value, not only for both countries but also for the stability of the Indo-Pacific region,” he said.
US Consul General in Surabaya, Christopher Green, noted that PT PAL’s transformation through the implementation of Maritime Industry 4.0 (IM4) has successfully increased production process efficiency.
“We view PT PAL as an important industrial partner that can contribute to our shared goals of promoting regional security, economic resilience, and trusted industrial collaboration,” said Green.
According to him, the digitalisation implemented by the company is capable of significantly reducing ship construction and docking times, thereby enhancing PT PAL’s industrial competitiveness on a global level.
“This achievement not only improves PT PAL’s operational excellence but also strengthens Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global shipbuilding industry alongside established shipbuilding nations. We hope to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation in the coming years,” he added.
