PT PAL Indonesia has officially signed a contract with West Natuna Exploration Limited (WNEL) for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Transportation (EPCT) of a Conductor Support Frame (CSF) for the Mako Development Project in the Duyung Working Area, Natuna Sea, Riau Islands. Under the agreement, WNEL has appointed PT PAL Indonesia as the main contractor responsible for engineering, material procurement, construction, and transportation of the Conductor Support Frame structure, which will form part of the Mako Gas Field’s production infrastructure. PT PAL Indonesia’s General Manager of Sales & Marketing, Aris Wacana Putra, stated that this trust demonstrates the engineering and manufacturing capabilities the company has developed to meet the needs of offshore gas exploitation infrastructure. Aris noted that the contract represents a strategic step for the company in expanding its commercial market while strengthening the role of national industry in supporting the energy sector’s development. Beyond expanding the company’s business portfolio, he said the project is a tangible contribution by national industry to bolstering Indonesia’s energy security. The Mako project is a nationally strategic gas field development that achieved its Final Investment Decision (FID) milestone in March 2026. Located in the Natuna Sea, the project will become an important domestic gas supply source to support national power generation needs and strengthen Indonesia’s energy security. PT PAL’s involvement marks an expansion of the company’s competencies from the shipping and defence sectors into the offshore energy industry, with the possibility of further business expansion in the Duyung Working Area. The company’s experience in building warships, commercial vessels, and various maritime platforms provides a strong foundation for meeting the construction needs of offshore structures for the upstream oil and gas industry. Confidence in the execution of the Mako Project is supported by the company’s track record in handling various offshore oil and gas projects since 2005. Successfully completed projects include the EPC Zelda Platform (CNOOC SES Ltd), EPCI Wellhead Platform Ujung Pangkah (Amerada Hess), and EPC KE-32 Platform (Kodeco Energy), as well as the EPCI Wellhead Platform Wortel and EPC Wellhead Platform Peluang (Santos Pty Ltd), EPC Jacket Bukit Tua (Petronas), EPCI Gas Compressor, and EPCI Platform Madura BD. Aris stated that the project will support the development of national energy infrastructure while increasing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) and encouraging local supply chain participation through the involvement of various national supporting industries. PT PAL targets completing all work in accordance with established quality, safety, and schedule standards, supported by digital transformation based on Industry Maritime 4.0 (IM4).
