PT PAL and BRIN Collaborate to Realise Green Shipyard, Supporting Maritime Industry
Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - PT PAL Indonesia is collaborating with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to realise a green shipyard transformation to support the growth of the national shipbuilding industry.
“This is a commitment by BRIN to strengthen the national research ecosystem to support the transformation of the shipbuilding industry,” said PT PAL Indonesia President Director Kaharuddin Djenod in Surabaya, East Java, on Monday.
Kaharuddin stated that the collaboration with BRIN would strengthen applied research capabilities, accelerate technological mastery, and support PT PAL’s transformation into a modern, green, efficient, and competitive shipyard.
According to him, this step is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to strengthen synergy between industry, research institutions, and universities to bolster the independence of the national shipbuilding industry.
PT PAL and BRIN also discussed plans to implement collaboration in applied research, maritime technology development, downstreaming of research results, and human resource competency improvement.
“The implementation of low-emission technology and energy efficiency is part of the transformation towards a green shipyard,” he said.
BRIN Deputy Chairman Amarulla Octavian expressed appreciation for PT PAL Indonesia’s capabilities as a national strategic industry that plays a crucial role in strengthening Indonesia’s maritime ecosystem.
He confirmed that BRIN is ready to collaborate with PT PAL to advance the national shipbuilding industry.
Beyond technological development, he noted that the collaboration also focuses on industrial transformation towards a green shipyard.
One of the main targets to be pursued, he continued, is the realisation of a green shipyard so that all of PT PAL’s main products originate from environmentally friendly, efficient, and innovation-based production processes.
He expressed hope that the transformation towards a green shipyard would not only enhance the competitiveness of the national shipbuilding industry but also expand PT PAL’s access to the global market.
Moreover, the increasing demand for sustainability standards in the international market presents an opportunity for the national industry to increase its capacity and commercial competitiveness.
“The global market increasingly demands sustainability standards. Therefore, this transformation will strengthen PT PAL’s commercial capacity,” said Octavian.
