PT Kimia Farma provides reputable services and products

PT (PERSERO) KIMIA FARMA

Kimia Farma began in 1817 as a Dutch company called NV
Chemicalien Handel Rathkamp & Co. After various name changes and
the Indonesian government's nationalization of all Dutch
pharmaceutical companies in 1958, it became PT (Persero) Kimia
Farma on Aug. 16, 1971, a state-owned company. Its Research and
Technology Division was officially inaugurated by the minister of
health in July 1991.

Kimia Farma's achievements include:

* launching new products;

* innovation of Iodized Oil soft capsules, used as a drug of
choice in the prevention and treatment of Iodine Deficiency
Disorders. This product consists of almost 100 percent local
content and is used as a substitute for imported products;

* technology for processing Quinidine, a product indicated for
antiarrhythmia;

* development of more efficient technology in the production of
Rifampicin, an antibiotic and drug of choice for treating
tuberculosis; and

* construction of its own waste-water treatment facilities. As a
company committed to preserving the environment, Kimia Farma has
received several awards, including the Sahwali Award.

Kimia Farma has six plants, located in Jakarta; Bandung, West
Java; Semarang, Central Java; Watudakon, East Java; and Tanjung
Morawa, North Sumatra. These plants produce pharmaceutical raw
materials and finished products which meet the GMP standard.

The products these plants manufacture are:

* Bulk raw materials such as Quinine Salts, Rifampicin, Iodide
and its salts, Ferrous Sulfate, Castor Oil and Vegetable Oils.

* Pharmaceutical formulations with generic and brand names, and
licensed products in various dosage forms, like tablet, capsule,
soft capsule, liquid, dry syrup, cream, injectable, etc.

Products manufactured by Kimia Farma include ethical products,
over-the-counter products, generic products, contraceptive
preparations, narcotic products and licensed products.

Kimia Farma has a distribution network that stretches
nationwide. The objective of this network is to provide good
quality services in the availability of medicine and medical
supply. Its distribution network consists of 34 pharmaceutical
wholesalers and 170 pharmacies.

Kimia Farma supports the government's program to improve the
quality of health and nutrition of the community.

Kimia Farma also supplies medical and research facilities. It
supplies, among others, dental units and surgical equipment to
hospitals and laboratories all over Indonesia. And to ensure good
services to patients, these units are provided with good after-
sales services.

Human resources development is an ongoing process at Kimia
Farma. Domestic and overseas training programs, seminars and
workshops are conducted year-round to broaden the horizons and
improve the skills of the personnel.
