Director-General of PT KAI (Persero) Bobby Rasyidin has stated that the company will close illegal railway crossings controlled by community organisations, or ormas, if they do not meet safety standards. “We must close them, whether through legal channels, in which case we will pursue that,” he said at Bekasi Station on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.

Bobby explained that KAI and the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation will review railway crossings. He assured that illegal crossings failing to meet safety standards will be closed.

He also urged the public not to reopen railway crossings that KAI has closed due to non-compliance with safety standards.

Bobby further requested that the public refrain from violating operational official KAI crossings. He clarified that official crossings built by KAI are equipped with sensors, not merely portals.

On the same occasion, Bobby stated that KAI will fulfil and enhance safety aspects for 1,800 official or illegal railway crossings. These safety improvement efforts include constructing flyover roads or installing gated systems. “There is no compromise. We have seen that even a slight disruption to safety aspects results in numerous casualties,” he said.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that he has identified priority locations among thousands of railway crossing points that will undergo improvements. “Those that are highly dangerous will be prioritised first this year,” he remarked.
