PT KAI Officially Launches Brumbung Cargo Train Operations on Demak-Jakarta Route
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 4 Semarang has officially commenced operations of the Brumbung Cargo train as of Thursday (16/4/2026). The inaugural journey ceremony took place at Brumbung Station.
Executive Vice President of Sales at PT KAI, Ririn Widi Astutik, and Head of KAI Daop 4 Semarang, Mohamad Arie Fathurrochman, attended the special occasion. Brumbung Cargo is a container freight train operating on the route from Pasoso Station (Tanjung Priok, Jakarta) to Brumbung Station (Demak, Central Java).
Ririn explained that the operation of the Brumbung Cargo train represents PT KAI’s commitment to improving reliable, efficient, and sustainable rail-based freight services. “The KA Brumbung Cargo is expected to serve as a competitive logistics solution for businesses, particularly in supporting the distribution of goods to and from Central Java,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Arie Fathurrochman explained that the Brumbung Cargo train is a concrete step in strengthening the role of KAI Daop 4 Semarang as a strategic logistics node in Central Java. “Through the operation of KA Brumbung Cargo, we are optimistic about enhancing freight transport performance while adding value for our customers,” he said.
According to him, the presence of the Brumbung Cargo train can become a reliable logistics transport option to Jakarta. “Additionally, this service is part of our efforts to support the development of a more efficient and sustainable logistics ecosystem,” Arie added.
The Brumbung Cargo train is a container freight train with a formation of 20 flat wagons (GD), equivalent to 40 TEUs (40 containers). Its carrying capacity can reach approximately 800 tonnes in a single trip. The train will serve multi-commodity transport with a frequency of one trip every two days.
