PT KAI Daop 4 Records Peak Mudik Flow on Wednesday, 18 March 2026
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 4 Semarang, Central Java, recorded 56,718 passengers using rail transport, comprising 25,428 boarding and 31,290 alighting, on Wednesday (18/3) yesterday. This figure represents the peak of the 2026 mudik flow. Specifically at Tegal Station, there were 2,591 boarding and 5,197 alighting passengers.
This was conveyed by the Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 4 Semarang, Luqman Arif, in an official statement, quoted on Thursday (19/3/2026). “During the Lebaran transport period from 11-18 March 2026, Wednesday was the peak of the mudik flow for customers using train transport at Tegal Station.
Here are the five stations with the highest passenger numbers on that day:
Semarang Tawang Station: 8,370 boarding and 8,446 alighting.
Semarang Poncol Station: 8,409 boarding and 5,076 alighting.
Tegal Station: 2,591 boarding and 5,197 alighting.
Pekalongan Station: 1,965 boarding and 3,930 alighting.
Cepu Station: 705 boarding and 2,096 alighting.
KAI Daop 4 Semarang noted the high enthusiasm of the public in utilising train services during the 2026 Lebaran transport period. From 11 to 18 March, Daop 4 served 372,598 passengers, with 173,538 boarding and 199,060 alighting at stations in the Semarang Daop 4 region.
Here are the passenger numbers at the five busiest stations in the Daop 4 region from 11-18 March 2026:
Semarang Tawang Station: 57,443 boarding and 54,676 alighting.
Semarang Poncol Station: 56,543 boarding and 31,896 alighting.
Tegal Station: 16,098 boarding and 33,419 alighting.
Pekalongan Station: 13,718 boarding and 24,147 alighting.
Cepu Station: 5,988 boarding and 12,432 alighting.
Besides Tegal Station, other stations in the Daop 4 region such as Semarang Tawang, Semarang Poncol, Pekalongan, and Cepu served as departure points with high passenger volumes to popular destinations like Jakarta, Surabaya, Solo, and Purwokerto. The favourite trains from Tegal Station are KA Tegal Bahari, Joglosemarkerto, and Kaligung.
As a measure to anticipate the peak mudik rush, KAI Daop 4 advised customers to depart earlier to the station to avoid getting stuck in road congestion leading to the station, which could result in missing the train. “To handle the surge in passengers and streamline the boarding process, KAI Daop 4 Semarang also urges all customers to ensure they carry official identification and travel tickets to facilitate boarding,” added Luqman.
To improve passenger services, KAI Daop 4 Semarang provided free drinking water stations at Semarang Tawang (4 units), Semarang Poncol (4 units), Tegal (1 unit), Pemalang (1 unit), Pekalongan (1 unit), Weleri (1 unit), Ngrombo (1 unit), and Cepu (1 unit).
Umbrella dryers were also provided at Semarang Tawang, Semarang Poncol, Tegal, Pekalongan, Pemalang, Ngrombo, and Cepu (1 unit each).
KAI has also implemented facial recognition boarding gates to make it easier for passengers to board trains without the hassle of showing documents during boarding. In the Semarang Daop 4 region, stations equipped with this facility include Semarang Tawang Station, Semarang Poncol Station, Tegal Station, and Pekalongan Station.
“The introduction of Facial Recognition Boarding Gates and drinking water stations demonstrates KAI’s commitment to providing faster, more practical, and environmentally friendly services. These facilities allow customers to simply undergo facial scanning for boarding. Not only does this speed up queues, but the technology also reduces the use of physical paper tickets and plastic bottles,” he concluded.
Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 4 Semarang, Luqman Arif, stated that there are 69 train journeys receiving ticket discount promotions in the Semarang Daop 4 region.
Two weeks before Eid al-Fitr 1447 H/2026, Lebaran 2026 transport ticket sales continued to increase.
This step was taken as part of preparations to handle the increased frequency of train journeys and passengers during the Lebaran transport period.
The public who booked train tickets on 25 January 2026 can already plan their trips for departures starting 11 March 2026.
Trains from the west are currently operating according to the prevailing schedule without route diversions.
