PT Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulogadung (Perseroda), known as PT JIEP, is strengthening waste sorting and processing at the source within the Pulogadung industrial estate, East Jakarta.

“For JIEP, this aligns with our role as an industrial estate manager. Therefore, we are striving to translate the spirit of waste sorting and processing through estate management, education, the provision of facilities, and collaboration with the government and the community,” said PT JIEP President Director Dharma Satriadi in Jakarta on Friday.

According to Dharma, managing waste from the source is a crucial step in reducing the amount of waste that ends up in final disposal sites.

This initiative is part of JIEP’s support for Jakarta Governor Instruction Number 5 of 2026 regarding the Waste Sorting and Processing Movement from the Source. Under this policy, waste management is encouraged to move beyond mere collection and focus on sorting and processing at the point of origin.

Dharma explained that PT JIEP implements waste management through TPS3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Sort) facilities by promoting waste sorting and converting organic waste into compost within the Pulogadung industrial estate.

Based on production data, from 2023 to 2026, compost production using manual methods reached 50,572 kilograms, or approximately 50.6 tonnes. Meanwhile, processing using mechanical methods yielded an additional 4,040.8 kilograms, or about 4 tonnes. Consequently, total recorded compost production reached 54,612.8 kilograms, or approximately 54.6 tonnes, Dharma clarified.

In addition to on-site management, PT JIEP is strengthening the capacity of the community and stakeholders through various educational activities. JIEP is collaborating with the Jakarta Environmental Sub-Department to provide waste management training to Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling (PPSU) officers across various areas of Jakarta.

Support is also being provided to residents in the area surrounding the estate (Ring 1) through the provision of waste sorting facilities. Furthermore, PT JIEP provides training to waste bank communities and conducts internal waste sorting education for its employees.

On the other hand, PT JIEP continues to encourage collaboration with businesses and tenants within the estate regarding waste management. This collaboration aims to ensure that waste management does not stop at collection but includes sorting and processing, thereby reducing the volume of residual waste.

“Reducing the waste that ends up in Bantargebang requires collaboration between estate managers, business actors, workers, the government, schools, and the community so that waste sorting and processing can run consistently from the source,” said Dharma.

He added that managing waste from the source is not only about estate cleanliness but also about how waste that still has utility can be processed and reused.

“We hope JIEP’s contribution can help reduce the volume of waste ending up in Bantargebang while supporting the creation of a greener and more sustainable Pulogadung Industrial Estate,” concluded Dharma.
