PT Indobuildco Rejects Hotel Sultan Eviction, Calls Enforcement 'First in History to Violate Law'
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Indobuildco has rejected the planned eviction of Hotel Sultan in Block 15 of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex in Central Jakarta, scheduled for 18 June 2026. Hamdan Zoelva, PT Indobuildco’s legal representative, stated that the enforcement could lead to new issues. ‘Due to legal uncertainty and injustice. It may be the first in our judicial history for an enforcement to violate the law,’ Hamdan told Kompas.com on Thursday (28 May 2026). He also argued that the enforcement order contravenes Supreme Court Circular (SEMA) No. 3 of 2000 and SEMA No. 4 of 2001, which state that without a security deposit equivalent to the asset’s value, the court cannot immediately enforce the ruling. Furthermore, Hamdan noted that the government’s enforcement would cause social problems. He said there is no guarantee employees will be rehired, as per the statement from the CEO of the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK), who mentioned the Hotel Sultan area would be converted into green open space. On the other hand, Hamdan stated that evicting Hotel Sultan would disrupt the national business and investment climate. He further explained that describing the enforcement as the final stage oversimplifies the legal complexities. The land contains a hotel building, business operations, workers, tenants, vendors, and third-party rights that cannot be ignored. ‘Understanding is crucial: the dispute is over the land, not the building or the hotel business. The Hotel Sultan business is unequivocally owned by PT Indobuildco,’ Hamdan said.
