North Tapanuli (ANTARA) — The Ministry of Public Works, through PT Hutama Karya (HK), is repairing a 50-metre stretch of road that has subsided on the Tarutung-Sibolga highway, located in Dolok Nauli Village, Adiankoting Sub-district, North Tapanuli Regency, Sumatera Utara.

According to HK’s Field Implementation Officer Slamet Mustafa, the subsidence of the main road at the location was caused by exceptionally high rainfall, with damage extending across 50 metres.

“The cause of this subsidence is due to high rainfall, which caused the ground to subside. As a result, the 50-metre stretch of the road has been damaged,” said Slamet Mustafa to ANTARA at the subsidence site on Sunday.

The company is currently carrying out backfilling of the subsided section at Station (STA) 12 KM+500 Metres on the Tarutung-Sibolga highway so that it can be returned to service.

Mustafa added that the road will be able to be used again by local residents for their activities after Eid al-Fitr 2026.

“Repairs are likely to be completed after Eid al-Fitr 2026, because we are still waiting for equipment to arrive and be ready for use as a national access route,” he continued.

To alleviate the congestion caused by this incident, Mustafa explained that the company will implement traffic management with the use of signage that is easily understood by residents.

“We will later open one lane, and we will install signage around here. So motorists can see the signs and reduce their vehicle speed accordingly,” he said.

Currently, four subsidence points are being repaired by HK out of a total of 100 subsidence points identified on the Tarutung-Sibolga main highway.

Given the severity of the situation, repairs will require considerable time to complete, according to him.
