PT Garam Ready to Achieve Salt Self-Sufficiency Through K-SIGN in NTT
PT Garam has signed a Joint Agreement with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) regarding the Management of the National Salt Industry Centre Area (K-SIGN) in Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. This signing marks an important milestone in the synergy between the government and PT Garam to build a modern, productive, sustainable, and competitive salt industrial area to strengthen national salt resilience.
Director General of Marine Management, Koswara, stated that the collaboration with PT Garam is part of the government’s effort to build a more integrated national salt industry ecosystem, from area management to increasing the productivity and quality of national salt. “This cooperation is an important foundation in building professional, effective, and sustainable K-SIGN management. With PT Garam’s experience as a state-owned salt enterprise, we are optimistic that this area can develop into a centre of national salt industry growth capable of supporting the acceleration of salt self-sufficiency,” he said.
According to Koswara, the existence of K-SIGN in Rote Ndao Regency is expected not only to increase national salt production capacity but also to create economic added value through the involvement of local governments, communities, and business actors in the area’s development. Responding to this trust, PT Garam President Director Abraham Mose expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries for the established synergy. “PT Garam appreciates the trust given to us as a strategic partner in managing the National Salt Industry Centre Area. We will carry out this mandate professionally, accountably, and with an orientation towards achieving the national salt self-sufficiency target,” he said.
Abraham noted that PT Garam’s experience in managing the national salt industry is an important asset to support the optimal operation, utilisation, maintenance, and development of the K-SIGN area. PT Garam will optimise operational capacity, implement good corporate governance, strengthen the area management system, and encourage the application of technology and innovation to increase the productivity, efficiency, and quality of national salt. As a State-Owned Enterprise mandated to develop the national salt industry, PT Garam also affirmed its readiness to support various government priority programmes. “PT Garam is ready to be at the forefront of implementing various government policies in the salt sector. Through the management of K-SIGN, we aim to present a modern, productive, and competitive salt industrial area that can increase national salt production, improve product quality, reduce dependence on imports, while providing economic benefits to coastal communities,” he stated.
The management of K-SIGN in Rote Ndao is expected to become a model for integrated national salt area development. Besides increasing domestic salt production capacity and quality, this area is also expected to open employment opportunities, strengthen the industrial supply chain, and create new business opportunities for the community. “PT Garam believes that the success of achieving national salt self-sufficiency requires close collaboration between the central government, local governments, state-owned enterprises, salt farmers, the business world, universities, and the community,” Abraham explained. “Going forward, PT Garam will continue to strengthen the company’s transformation through increasing production capacity, developing technology and innovation, strengthening corporate governance, and expanding collaboration with all stakeholders as a tangible form of support for the government’s programme to realise an independent, resilient, and competitive Indonesia in the salt sector,” he concluded.
