PT DSI CEO Clarifies Distinct Role from Mineral Exchange
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI) has explained the difference between its role in the mineral natural resources sector and the mineral exchange that will be established by the government.
DSI President Director Luke Thomas Mahony emphasised that the role of the mineral exchange in the commodity trading ecosystem differs from the function of the institution he leads.
“So the role of the exchange is still evolving, but for me, the role of the exchange is different from the role of DSI,” he said at the Wisma Danantara building in Jakarta on Monday (24/8/2026).
According to him, the two institutions can operate side by side, but their functions must be clearly distinguished. Luke explained that the exchange has a role in forming or setting commodity prices through the available trading mechanisms.
Meanwhile, DSI has a different function, namely verifying the prices that have been formed before those prices are used by users.
“So, the exchange sets prices through different mechanisms. DSI’s role is to verify prices. Then there are users who use those prices,” he explained.
He added that the existence of the two institutions can still complement each other within one ecosystem. However, the division of functions is important to avoid overlapping roles between the exchange and DSI.
“So, for me, what is important is, okay, both can coexist in the ecosystem, but they must be distinguished, especially in terms of the roles they play. So, at this stage, DSI is not directly involved in ICOMEX,” he said.
