PT DNPI fires four workers

JAKARTA: PT Dai Nippon Printing Indonesia (DNPI) was reported
to have arbitrarily fired four of its workers, who were accused
of having stolen its products.

Yan Pieter Siahaan, the lawyer of the workers -- Solihin, his
subordinates Yudi Hermawan and Kristian Patuan, and his wife
Siswati -- said here on Sunday that the company's action was not
humane as the workers had not been proven to have committed the
crime.

"It seems the company only fabricated the reason. Also there
is no evidence to show that they had stolen some boxes from the
company's warehouse in Pulogadung," Yan Pieter was quoted by
Antara as saying.

He said they had been accused of having stolen some boxes from
a truck, which allegedly went to the company's warehouse in
Pulogadung, East Jakarta on Aug. 31. But upon arrival, the truck
was empty, with no boxes inside. Antara did not elaborate about
the boxes.

The day after that, three of them, except Siswati, were asked
by the company's security guards to admit the crime and forced to
resign. They said they had been forced to admit that they had
committed the crime because they had been physically threatened
by the security guards.

Curiously, Solihin wife, Siswati, who also worked for the
Japanese printing company, was fired several days later. -- JP
