PT DI's N219 Aircraft Enters Commercial Market
BANDUNG – PT Dirgantara Indonesia’s (PT DI) N219 aircraft has entered the commercial market with the sale of four units to PT Mitra Aviasi Perkasa. The aircraft can be used for flights to Indonesia’s outermost islands.
Deputy Minister of National Development Planning (PPN/Bappenas) Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard stated that the signing of the sales contract for four N219 aircraft from PT DI to a private entity is historic. This is because the sale is to a private company for commercial flights.
“So far, we’ve heard of purchases entirely by the state and the TNI. But this is the first, and in my view, it is a significant historical milestone that we must remember because it means there is commercial trust in PT Dirgantara Indonesia’s products,” he said at the sales contract signing event at Hanggar Aircraft Services on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
He added that the N219 aircraft has specifications and unique features that can meet Indonesia’s aviation needs, particularly in the outermost islands. He hopes Indonesia will not only be a market but also improve its aviation industry capabilities.
“Don’t let that capability be lost just because it can’t be used in the commercial market,” he said.
PT DI President Director Gita Amperiawan stated that the N219 is produced for pioneer flights in remote areas. He noted that the aircraft can take off and land on runways shorter than 1 kilometre or a maximum of 800 metres.
Additionally, he mentioned that the aircraft’s manoeuvrability allows landing or takeoff on runways with difficult terrain. From an operational and maintenance perspective, it prioritises competitiveness, including after-sales support.
This includes the two engines, making it safe to cross oceans. Gita said the N219 is 100 per cent produced by the nation’s own children.
