PT DI workers go on strike

BANDUNG: Around 200 employees of aircraftmaker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) went on strike on Thursday, while many others have returned to work after the company had to suspend operations last week following the demand by employees for an increase in salary.

The striking workers, grouped under the Workers Communication Forum gathered at the Management Center Building in the PT DI complex, demanding that the management increase their salary.

"We will not go back to work until the management increases our basic salary three times and the president director resigns," the forum chairman, Arief Minardi said.

Meanwhile, PT DI spokesman Rakhendi Triyatna said that the management had fulfilled some of the employees' demands.

"Today, workers have received an increase in their transport and meal allowances," Rakhendi said on Thursday.

"But if the workers want the company president director, Jusman S. Djamal, to resign, they must list the mistakes made by Pak Jusman and send it to the shareholders. Let the shareholders decide," Rakhendy said, adding that Jusman had performed well over the last nine months. (25/sur)
