PT Bolttech Insurance Broker Wins "Innovator of the Year" at Asian Management Excellence Awards 2026

The award reflects Bolttech Insurance Broker’s response to emerging risks accompanying the growing adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia, a trend aligned with national targets for environmentally friendly mobility.

Bolttech Insurance Broker sought to address the limitations of conventional motor insurance programmes, which do not cover several critical risks faced by electric vehicle users, such as battery-related risks, charging issues, and roadside incidents caused by battery depletion. This coverage gap has left some prospective buyers hesitant about owning an electric vehicle despite rising interest. To that end, Bolttech Insurance Broker specifically developed a solution addressing these challenges, rather than merely adapting existing vehicle insurance products.

The insurance programme was developed through collaboration between product, operations, technology, and customer experience teams at Bolttech Insurance Broker, together with Harmony Auto. The insurance solution was subsequently introduced across all BYD Harmony Auto showrooms in Indonesia, enabling customers to obtain insurance coverage at the point of vehicle purchase.

Available coverage options include Comprehensive and Total-Loss-Only packages. Insurance coverage protects the electric vehicle battery, controller, electric motor, and home charging equipment. Operational support includes roadside emergency assistance, towing services when the vehicle runs out of charge, taxi fare reimbursement during the repair period, and wheel and tyre protection. Depending on the package selected, customers may also receive personal accident cover, third-party legal liability protection, and natural disaster coverage.

Thanks to the programme’s structure, Bolttech Insurance Broker has integrated insurance into the dealer’s operational processes without complicating the car purchasing experience. This approach has also boosted insurance product uptake whilst remaining aligned with dealer workflows.

Industry collaboration has also been a key element of the programme’s impact. According to Suwandy, Country Head of BYD and Denza at Harmony Auto, the integration of insurance into the electric vehicle ownership process provides practical support for customers.
