PT BMS has successfully conducted the first tapping (ferronickel production) of the second furnace on Sunday (29/3/2026) at 06.45 WITA. This represents an important achievement in the company’s operational journey.

This success also serves as a strategic milestone in the series of production operation stages for PT BMS’s Factory #2, particularly in the metal smelting sector. Moreover, this accomplishment affirms PT BMS’s positive progress in developing an integrated and sustainable nickel processing industry.

PT BMS’s leadership, Ma’rifat Pawelangi, stated that the success of this first tapping is the result of collaboration, dedication, and commitment from the entire team in ensuring that every production stage runs smoothly.

“This success is a very important initial step in our production process. We remain committed to maintaining consistency and quality in every operational stage, and we hope for ongoing support from all parties so that the production and commissioning processes can run smoothly,” he said in an official statement on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

Moving forward, PT BMS targets achievements in the metal refining sector by producing Nickel Matte, planned to be realised in mid-2026. This stage will serve as a strategic continuation in enhancing the added value of nickel products as part of the downstreaming ecosystem.

Embracing the spirit of “Smelter Anak Bangsa” (Nation’s Child Smelter), PT BMS contributes to strengthening the national industry while driving regional economic growth. It is hoped that the presence of this smelter will deliver tangible impacts through increased economic activity and job creation for the Luwu community.

Currently, around 85% of PT BMS’s workforce comes from the local Luwu community, demonstrating the company’s commitment to empowering local human resources and creating shared value for the surrounding society.

This achievement aligns with the government’s efforts to accelerate the national downstreaming programme as part of the development vision championed by President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, through the Asta Cita agenda, particularly in strengthening industrial independence and enhancing Indonesia’s economic competitiveness.

Consequently, PT BMS is optimistic about maintaining growth momentum and providing broader contributions to the national industry, society, and Indonesia’s economy in a sustainable manner.
