Jakarta (ANTARA) - Executive Vice President Director of PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM), Thomas Wijaya, stated that Indonesia is the third-largest motorcycle market in the world, contributing more than 10 percent to the total global market, which reaches 50 to 60 million units per year.

“Last year, the Indonesian market was around 6.4 million units, growing about 1 percent compared to the previous year’s 6.3 million units. Globally, Indonesia is in third place,” said Thomas in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He explained that in January this year, the national motorcycle market was recorded at around 577 thousand units, or an increase of about 3 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to Thomas, AHM, as one of the leading manufacturers in the country, also recorded growth in line with the market.

The company’s domestic production almost reached 5 million units last year, or around 4.98 million units, up about 1 percent compared to the previous year.

In addition to meeting domestic market needs, AHM also contributed to the export of completely built-up (CBU) vehicles, totaling 223 thousand units, as well as almost 1 million units in the form of completely knocked down (CKD).

He assessed that the large national motorcycle market shows the important role of two-wheeled vehicles in supporting community mobility and economic activities in various regions.

“We hope this growth can continue so that the two-wheeled industry can contribute even more to the national economy,” he said.
