Psychologist: TNI Defendants in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case Impulsive and Lacking Empathy

JAKARTA - TNI psychologist Colonel Arh Agus Syahrudin revealed the results of psychological examinations on four defendants in the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, during a hearing at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026). In his statement as an expert witness, Agus noted that several defendants showed tendencies towards impulsivity, weak self-control, and minimal empathy. The four defendants are members of TNI BAIS, namely Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetya, and First Lieutenant Sami Lakka. Regarding Sergeant Two Edi, Agus stated that the defendant has limitations in thinking flexibility and is less effective in solving complex problems. “In the examination of Sergeant Two Edi, Agus noted that the defendant has limitations in thinking flexibility, tends to be impulsive, and is less effective in solving complex problems,” Agus explained. “There appears to be considerable remorse due to the actions taken having a wide impact not only on the individual concerned, but also on the victim, family, and institution. That is the profile picture of the psychological results for Sergeant Two Edi,” he continued. “His personality tends to be less warm in relationships, formal, and minimal empathy, with a tendency towards impulsivity and weak self-control,” Agus revealed. Nevertheless, Agus said no pathological indications were found in Budhi. However, his thinking patterns and personality are assessed as having potential for risky behaviour. “There appears to be considerable remorse due to the actions taken having a wide impact not only on the individual concerned, but also on the victim, family, and institution,” Agus stated. “His personality is independent, rigid, ignores emotional closeness, and is more task-oriented. No pathological indications were found, but the personality pattern has potential for risky behaviour,” he explained. Meanwhile, the examination results for First Lieutenant Sami Lakka show simple and practical thinking patterns. “First Lieutenant Sami Lakka, from the examination results, it can be concluded that the individual’s psychological thinking process is simple and practical. His personality shows a low and narrow social interest tendency,” Agus explained.
