The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the highest football body in Asia, has imposed a sanction on the PSSI concerning an international friendly match between Indonesia’s U23 national team and Mali held on 15 and 18 November 2025 at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor.

The AFC determined that the PSSI submitted required administrative documentation late for the matches. “The defendant submitted the authorization application late,” stated the official AFC statement.

As a result of this violation, the PSSI is required to pay a fine to the AFC of USD 1,500 (equivalent to approximately IDR 25 million). The decision was issued by the AFC Discipline and Ethics Committee on 25 February 2026, which also stipulated that the fine must be paid within 30 days of the decision.

Several other penalties were also included from the Discipline and Ethics Committee meeting. One involved the Vietnam versus Thailand match at the 2025 SEA Games, where the Vietnamese federation was sanctioned after five individuals from their team members violated Article 53 of the AFC Discipline and Ethics Code. The Vietnamese federation was fined USD 1,500.

Indonesia will now prepare to host the FIFA Series 2026 tournament. The squad under coach John Herdman will begin the tournament by facing Saint Kitts and Nevis on 27 March 2026. The FIFA Series 2026 final will be held on 30 March 2026. All matches will be held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta.
