PSMS Medan letting Chilean Eduardo go

MEDAN: PSMS Medan will not renew the contract of Chilean Luis Eduardo for the Indonesian League soccer competition starting on Jan. 14, an official said on Tuesday.

PSMS general secretary H. Randiman Tarigan told Antara news service Eduardo would be let go after three seasons with the club because his play was no longer considered of the "desired quality".

However, the club will extend the contracts of three other South American players: Paraguayan Alcidio Fleitas, who was the top scorer (seven goals) in PSMS' successful defense of the Bang Yos Cup in Jakarta earlier this month, and Chileans Alejandro Tobar and Mario Alberto.

"These three long-serving players on the PSMS team are having their contracts renewed because they still show quality (play), so it's only fitting for us to keep them," Randiman said.

PSMS will compete with 13 other teams in the western zone of the competition, with the winner from its group to meet the winner of the 14-strong eastern section. -- JP
