PSM victorious, PKT overthrown

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi (JP): Home favorites PSM Makassar thrashed visiting Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) 6-1 in the home leg of its second round match of the Asian Club Football Championships at Mattoangin stadium here on Wednesday.

Midfielder Fouda Ntsama opened the scoring for the hosts three minutes into the first half. Striker Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto widened the gap in the 13th minute, before a hat-trick from Miro Baldo Bento on 35, 54 and 70 minutes completed the mauling.

In between, defender Supparoek Ngoenpradap scored an own goal in the 22th minute. Worawit Thawornwun gave the Thais a consolation goal in the 44th minute.

Pupuk Kaltim (PKT) of Bontang, East Kalimatan, lost 0-1 to another Thai club, BEC Tero Sassana, in the second round match of the Asian Winners Cup championships at Mulawarman stadium in Bontang Wednesday.

Striker Worrawoot Srimaka headed home the winner in the 40th minute, leaving the Indonesian side a daunting task in the return leg next Wednesday.

PSM will also head for Bangkok for an away match on Wednesday. (27/ivy)
