PSL Establishes Emergency Response Team and Trains Workers to Tackle Fires
Mitigating fire risks in the workplace requires more than having safety equipment available; workers must also be prepared to deal with emergencies. Understanding potential hazards, using fire extinguishers and knowing initial response procedures are important to reducing fire risks.
PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva (PSL) has introduced several mitigation measures, including establishing an Emergency Response Team, providing fire-protection equipment and delivering safety training for workers. The measures are intended to improve readiness for potential emergencies across the company.
PSL Senior Vice President for Corporate Secretariat Dewi Fitriyani said preparedness requires every worker to have the necessary understanding and skills. Safety equipment, she said, must be accompanied by the ability to identify risks and decide what action to take in the event of a fire.
“Safety is not only about having equipment or procedures in place, but also about each individual being ready to recognise risks and take the right action,” Dewi said in a statement on Wednesday (21 October 2026).
As part of its mitigation efforts, PSL has established an Emergency Response Team to provide an initial response and co-ordinate action during emergencies. The company has also supplied portable fire extinguishers, hydrants, sprinkler systems and smoke detectors.
In addition to preparing its facilities, the company has trained PSL workers and employees of several subsidiaries to use fire extinguishers. The training took place at the North Jakarta Fire Department’s Koja Sector 2 office, with firefighters acting as instructors.
Participants were briefed on the characteristics of fires and initial response measures. They also practised using fire extinguishers to learn how to operate the equipment in an emergency.
Dewi said the company regularly conducts occupational health and safety (OHS) awareness activities through communications materials, educational leaflets and safety briefings. These activities aim to ensure workers remain familiar with safety procedures in their daily work.
“Building a safety culture requires consistency. That is why OHS education and reminders need to be provided continuously, not only when an emergency occurs,” Dewi said.
Through its emergency team, safety equipment and worker training, PSL is seeking to improve preparedness for fire risks. The company regards ongoing education as one component of fostering a safety culture in the workplace.
