PSIM Yogyakarta vs Madura United: Laskar Mataram Win 2-1
PSIM Yogyakarta successfully secured full points when hosting Madura United in the continuation of week 33 of the Indonesia Super League. Playing at the Sultan Agung Stadium, Bantul, on Sunday (17/5), the team nicknamed Laskar Mataram ended their opponent’s resistance with a narrow score of 2-1.
This victory is very crucial for PSIM to improve their position in the standings. Appearing in front of their own supporters, the home team immediately took the initiative to attack from the first whistle.
The aggressiveness of PSIM Yogyakarta immediately paid off in the 18th minute. Ezequiel Vidal managed to break the deadlock after exploiting a gap in Madura United’s defense. His shot could not be anticipated by the opposing goalkeeper, changing the score to 1-0.
Not satisfied with one goal, Laskar Mataram continued to pressure the defense of Laskar Sape Kerrab. As a result, in the 34th minute, Muhammad Iqbal successfully doubled the advantage to 2-0. This two-goal lead lasted until the referee blew the half-time whistle.
Entering the second half, Madura United tried to break out of the pressure. The match became more open with intense exchanges of attacks. The visiting team’s efforts finally paid off in the 62nd minute through Junior Brandao, who narrowed the gap to 2-1.
The tension increased in the final minutes of the match. PSIM had to play with 10 men after Donny Warmerdam was given a red card by the referee in the 86th minute. Even though they were outnumbered for the remainder of the time, PSIM’s disciplined defense ensured that the score remained 2-1 until the end of the match.
This additional three points brought PSIM Yogyakarta up to 11th place in the temporary standings of the Indonesia Super League with a total of 45 points.
