PSI West Java Pushes for Strengthened Protection and Rights of Workers
Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) in West Java, Iwan Koswara, is pushing for comprehensive strengthening of worker protections and rights fulfilment in West Java. He stressed that attention to labourers must be a priority in regional policies, including for honorary teachers who have long faced various limitations. According to Iwan, workers play an important role in supporting the regional economy. However, in practice, many workers still do not receive their rights optimally, whether in terms of wages, job certainty, or social security. “Attention to labourers must be increased further. We want workers in West Java to truly be cared for, not just normatively, but also in the implementation of policies in the field,” Iwan told Republika on Friday (1/5/2026). He added that worker groups such as honorary teachers also need special attention. So far, he said, many honorary teachers still face welfare issues, from inadequate income to uncertain employment status. “These honorary teachers are part of the workers who must also be protected. They have a significant role in the world of education, but their welfare still needs to be improved,” he said. Iwan assessed that the momentum of Labour Day commemoration is the right time to reflect again on the commitment of the government and all stakeholders in fighting for workers’ rights. He also encouraged strengthening regulations and supervision of companies and institutions so that workers’ rights can be fulfilled fairly. In addition, policies that favour vulnerable workers, including honorary teachers, are needed. “In the future, we want policies in West Java to truly favour labourers. Not only guaranteeing protection, but also improving their welfare and future certainty,” he stated.
