The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has affirmed that it will not provide legal assistance to PSI Board of Trustees Secretary Grace Natalie in connection with the alleged editing of a sermon by Indonesia’s 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK). PSI states that Grace’s remarks constitute a personal stance, thus placing the legal responsibility on the individual concerned.

“This is it: statements made by party members, well, let’s say by Ms Grace, are personal statements,” said PSI Acting Chairman Ahmad Ali, or Mad Ali, at the PSI Central Executive Board office on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Mad Ali assured that institutionally, PSI will not intervene to offer legal aid. He emphasised that the report must be accounted for by Grace Natalie personally.

“Institutionally, we assure that we will not provide party institutional legal assistance. Because this is something that must be accounted for personally,” he said.

Nevertheless, PSI remains open to providing support in a personal capacity.

“The Indonesian Solidarity Party, in the context of friendship, as companions, we provide personal assistance,” he said.

Reported to Bareskrim

On the other hand, a coalition of 40 Islamic community organisations has reported Grace Natalie and two others to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim). The report pertains to the alleged editing of JK’s sermon at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Mosque some time ago.

“The police report we filed against the respondents Mr Ade Armando, Permadi Arya, and Grace Natalie has been received by the police, and we have obtained the police report receipt letter,” said representative of LBH Hidayatullah, Syaefullah Hamid, to reporters at Bareskrim Polri, South Jakarta, on Monday (4/5).

The report was registered under number LP/B/185/V/2026/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI dated 4 May 2026.
