PSI Responds to Budi Arie's Statement, Says It Supports Prabowo-Gibran to the End

The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has responded to a statement by Projo chairman Budi Arie Setiadi concerning the possibility of the 2029 election being brought forward. Deputy chairman of the PSI central board, Andy Budiman, said that as part of the coalition, PSI would continue to assist and oversee the programmes of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka until the end.

“PSI will oppose any attempt to bring down the government mid-term. We support the Prabowo-Gibran administration until the end, and all cadres are united in making it a success. PSI believes that differences of opinion or criticism of the government should be channelled through the available mechanisms, not through building a movement to topple a legitimate government,” Andy said in a statement on Wednesday (26/8/2026).

He said PSI remained in the government coalition and viewed Budi Arie’s statement as an attempt to bring down the government.

“Once again, PSI remains consistent within the coalition ranks to assist, safeguard, and ensure the government runs until the end. If there are parties who wish to topple the government mid-term, we will block and fight them,” Andy concluded.

Budi Arie Setiadi had mentioned the possibility of a “speeding up of history” regarding political dynamics in Indonesia. His statement circulated in a video on social media. In the video, Budi appeared seated next to Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, while expressing his views on the possibility of a change in the political situation before the 2029 election.

Budi said current societal conditions showed a number of anomalies that he believed needed attention.

“But I want to say, earlier I whispered to Mr Jokowi. Sir, my instinct says this could happen sooner than ’29. Do we want that? Not necessarily. We are still talking about the ’29 election, the ’29 election. What if an acceleration happens? Are we ready or not?” Budi said.
