PSI Receives Iranian Ambassador, Discusses Pertamina Tanker Route through Strait of Hormuz

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) received a visit from Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, at the PSI Central Executive Board building in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026).

The closed-door meeting was attended by PSI General Chairman Kaesang Pangarep along with several cadres of the Super Tbk party.

Kaesang stated that during the meeting, PSI conveyed several matters to the Iranian Ambassador, including congratulations to the Iranian people on the new leadership in the country.

“Yes, today we received the Iranian Ambassador at the PSI office. We conveyed several things, one of which was congratulating the Iranian people who now have a new supreme leader,” said Kaesang after the meeting.

Kaesang also touched on Indonesia’s interests, particularly regarding energy distribution routes.

“We also expressed our aspiration for Indonesian tankers carrying Pertamina’s oil to be able to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.

According to Kaesang, the Iranian Ambassador responded positively and stated that the issue was only a technical constraint that would soon be resolved.

“The response was very good. He said it was just a technical issue and would be settled soon,” he added.

Kaesang emphasised that there was no specific discussion regarding PSI’s internal interests in the meeting.

However, the Iranian Ambassador was said to have offered prayers and best wishes for the party.

Director of Volunteer Mobilisation at the PSI Central Executive Board, Furqan AMC, stated that this visit was part of the ongoing communication between PSI and the Iranian Embassy.

He noted that PSI had previously expressed sympathy for the situation in Iran, including upon the passing of the country’s supreme leader.

“This is a form of our solidarity. As we are the Indonesian Solidarity Party, we want to show our concern for the Iranian people and the region affected by the current situation,” said Furqan.
