The Disaster Directorate of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Anthony Norman Lianto, has called for post-disaster management in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to become a shared priority. According to the politician from the elephant-logo party, attention to the community must not cease once the emergency response phase ends.

“Post-disaster management must be a shared priority. After the emergency response period, the community still faces many needs, ranging from housing and basic infrastructure to public services and the recovery of economic activities,” said Norman, as quoted on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.

Norman stated that the post-disaster recovery process requires consolidation and collaborative work from various parties. According to him, disaster management is not enough by merely ensuring aid arrives at the location, but also by ensuring that affected communities can gradually and safely resume their lives.

“This is not about who is most present or who provides aid the fastest. What is more important is how all existing forces can be consolidated to ensure that affected communities truly receive support during the recovery process,” said Norman.

Furthermore, Norman assessed that attention to the disaster-affected community needs to be maintained throughout the recovery process, especially when public attention to a disaster begins to wane.

“The hope is that our attention does not stop when news coverage of the disaster begins to decrease. On the contrary, when the spotlight begins to shift, the community’s recovery process must continue and remain a shared priority,” Norman added.

He added that post-disaster recovery is not just about rebuilding houses or facilities that have been damaged. Recovery also encompasses the continuity of the community’s social and economic life.

“What we are recovering is not just houses and public facilities, but the lives of the people,” said Norman.

Norman emphasised that this call is a consolidative invitation for various parties to continue strengthening coordination in post-disaster management in NTT. He noted that direct visits to the affected areas could serve as a momentum to strengthen attention to the community’s needs while ensuring that the recovery process remains sustainable.
